I have found seven YouTube videos, all very different — music, sports, interviews, surprises, tearjerkers and shockers that will snap you out of your doldrums. Let’s get started!
Undercover Karaoke with Jewel (6:53)
I shall start with my favorite. Truth be told, I am not a fan the singer Jewel and I don’t own any of her music. However, she is the star of my favorite video. Here’s the scenario: ‘Karen’, a frumpy office worker type joins some of her co-workers for an after-work cocktail session at a karaoke bar. The patrons at this bar take their karaoke pretty seriously. Throughout the evening her co-workers try to coax a reluctant Karen to get up and sing. Then the whole bar erupts into chants of, “Karen, Karen, Karen!” Karen eventually takes the stage. The crowd’s reaction and the reveal is priceless.
Woman Reunited with Fishermen 35 years after they Rescued Her (2:56)
Off Catalina Island, two fishermen came upon a boat that was capsized. There were no signs of survivors except for a child who they found in a lifejacket, floating in the ocean. Thirty-five years after the rescue the two fishermen are invited to take part in a podcast to tell their story. The podcast host introduces the fishermen to a woman who would serve as an interpreter for the show’s Spanish-speaking audience. The female interpreter is not an interpreter. I chose to give you the shortened version of the encounter. YouTube also has a longer, a much more impactful version of the conversation among the three. Again, the reveal — priceless!
Celine Dion and the Canadian Tenors (5:14)
The four-man vocal group The Canadian Tenors are one of the most popular singing acts in all of Canada. They are also huge fans of the singer Celine Dion. The group is invited to appear on the Oprah Winfrey Show for what they believe is a talent contest. They are in the midst of performing ‘Hallajelua’ when magic happens.
Alice Cooper on the late musician Glen Campbell (11:11)
The side of Alice Cooper that will amaze you. Few music fans knew that he was best friends with Glen Campbell. The two were inseperable. Their kids grew up together. Alice and Glen golfed together. Alice is asked to reflect on the friendship after Glen’s dimentia-related passing. An absolutely riveting 11 minutes.
Danny Webber Meets Colts Quarterback Andrew Luck (5:49)
Danny Webber will soon die of cancer. His dying wish is to attend his final Indianapolis Colts football game and maybe, just maybe get the chance to meet his idol, Colts quarterback Andrew Luck.
Jeff Gordon Takes Car Salesman For a Ride (3:46)
Racing superstar Jeff Gordon goes incognito at a car dealership where he expresses interest in a ‘hot’ car. The salesman is only too happy to let this rube take a test drive — The Test Drive From Hell!
Luke Bryan Surprises a Fan (4:13)
Diane Taylor was going to die if she did not find a kidney donor. By miracle, chance or fate, her own daughter Lisa was a match and the surgery was a success. The two are huge fans of country music superstar Luke Bryan and are excited to be attending his concert. Luke got wind of their story and as Diane and Lisa held a pre-concert party at their house there came a knock at the door!
